I think we are all glad to see the end of 2020. It had been a challenging year for a lot of us and caused a great amount of change in our lives and in the way that businesses operate.
Coming into 2021 we are seeing a huge shift into online business from employees working from home and the closure of retail outlets and the increased demand for online shopping. This has created more opportunities for online marketing than we have ever seen before.
There are two ways to look at this change. There is a massive increase in competition, but also in potential customers or audience for the taking. You could be put off from what you are pursuing because you now think the market seems too saturated, but you should drop this mentality and get into a new way of thinking. Being unique and setting the standard for how you would like to run your brand or business is the key to success.
I have worked with social media agencies, Influencers and businesses over the last 5 years and the one thing I see time and time again is unengaging, uninspiring posts bringing nothing to the table. People will ask me: "Im posting everyday, but I'm not getting any engagement. Why is it not working for me?" Take a step back from what you are doing and look at the content you post online, whether you are uploading pictures on Instagram or posting videos on Youtube what value do you bring to followers and visitors? Why should people want to follow you? A million people could post photos of their artwork, what separates you from the rest? These are the questions you need to continuously ask yourself.
Having inspirations for your work is great, but the answer is to be unique. Give value to what you have. Show people your passion for what you do. If you create exciting dynamic content it gives people a reason to follow you. People will be waiting for you to upload to see what you have for them next.
Knowing your audience is a vital part of this too. Analytics are a great tool to see who your main audience is for your social media. You can find out your target age group, gender, country and more. This applies to big business and it is exactly the same for social media. If you are pursuing you social media as a career you will need to take note of this. Knowing who your audience is allows you to create your content in a way that will appeal to the people who support and follow you and keep them coming back for more.
This will make it easier when working with brands or promoting your own products too. You can create advertisements that are targeted at the audience that you have built. Advertisements or sponsored content has to be interesting too, no one likes to be bombarded with adverts all day long as theres no shortage on social media today. Create something funny. Create something that commands attention. Create something you. If you are sponsored by another brand, they will want to work with you more in future if you capture peoples attention.
Content that can engage with your audience will start conversations with your following and lead to sharing of your content. Bring your persona to the table so people can get to know you and take full advantage of story tools such as polls or questionnaires.
Im looking forward to writing more content in future about a variety of topics, if there you would like me to cover in future blogs please contact me directly.
